Culminis December Survey>>>
In order to encourage participation from the entire Culminis population, a $250 gift certificate or equivalent will be awarded, from a random drawing, to one qualifying user group from each region (North America, APAC, EMEA and LATAM). For every response Culminis receives from a group (minimum 10 to qualify for drawing), the user group will receive one entry in the drawing. The more members a group has that take the survey, the more entries into the drawing for their group.
Example: when a user group reaches the minimum of 10 responses, they have 10 chances in the drawing. For each survey response after the minimum 10 they receive one more chance in the drawing. Therefore 11 member responses would receive 11 chances and so forth.
The leader of the selected winning User Group will be notified as soon as possible after the drawing and arrangements will be made for receipt of the prize. The link to the survey for December is:
http://survey.culminis.com/takeSurvey.asp?surveyID=53
The survey is now available and will close on Wednesday, December 5th, 2007 at 8:00 PM Eastern time.
Culminis Survey
Dear Member,
Here is your chance to shape the content Microsoft will be providing to you for the upcoming Windows Server 2008 Community Launch.
For the first time in its history, Microsoft is engaging, on a large scale, with the user group community and intends to use your direct feedback to help shape the content it will deliver to the community.
Culminis and Microsoft are currently preparing the Community Launch efforts for Windows Server 2008 and are asking for our help. We are being asked to provide information, through a survey, on what deliverables we want to include in this launch. The information we are providing will be used for this purpose only. We have asked for contact information in the survey to clarify answers and to provide updates over the next 12 weeks. However, you are not required to provide this information in order to complete the survey. This information will be provided to Microsoft but will not be used or sold for other marketing purposes.
Your goal is to provide information on the deployment of Windows Server 2008 based on your specific infrastructure. Microsoft needs details on different environments in order to create content that is less generic, and hence, more useful. Below are some examples of the type of information the Microsoft team is looking for. Your input does not need to be as detailed as these examples but the more information you can provide, the better.
Scenario
Key Points to include in training:
Infrastructure
Additional Information
Deploying Server core to provide networking services.
How to join a Server core to a domain in unattended mode.
How to Administer Server core without a GUI.
Integrating Server core into existing
Management systems.
How to configure network services such as DNS, AD, or DHCP.
Windows Server 2003
Domain
MOM 2005
Branch Office

Branch Office connected via leased line.
Remote Desktop preferred method of administration.
Integrating Windows Server 2008 into an existing Update management environment
Planning requirements to consider when deploying Windows Server 2008.
Configuring agents on Windows Server 2008 configuration variation.
Using Windows Server 2008 as a Virtualization platform.
SMS 2003
WSUS
Tivoli
HP Open View
Can we cover both environments where SMS or WSUS is used to manage updates, as well as a non-MS environment?
Click here to link to the survey. Your feedback is important to both Culminis and Microsoft. Thank you for your assistance. If you have any questions, please send them to cltwinserv@culminis.com

How to VS.NET Special Interest Group (SIG)
The 'How to VS.NET SIG' meets every thursday at Aroma at 11:30am and lately has also been meeting at the Holiday Inn in Madison on Monday's at 5pm. The SIG organized by Robert Trueblood and Dan Wygant, meets every week to solve interesting (and often work related problems) on .NET. One recent topic - APad (windows ClickOnce notepad for AD policy). The meetings are informal and everyone is encouraged to bring their questions and have them collectively resolved.
Culminis August Survey
Culminis is conducting a survey of all user groups in order to determine how they can serve the user community better. The information provided from surveys is an integral part of Culminis and the Community they serve. The results of these surveys are very important because they represent the voice of the community and as such, are part of the foundation for publication of The VOICE.
In the past few months, surveys were conducted via direct telephone calls to User Group Leaders by Culminis Community Managers. With the restructuring of Culminis described in the July issue of The VOICE, Culminis has adopted a new process for surveys. The surveys will now be electronic and will include feedback from both leaders and members of user groups. As always, names and e-mail information will not be collected.
In order to encourage participation from the entire Culminis population, we have designed a contest. A $250 gift certificate or equivalent will be awarded, from a random drawing, to one qualifying user group from each region. (North America, APAC, EMEA and LATAM). For every response Culminis receives from a group (minimum 10 to qualify for drawing) the user group will receive one entry in the drawing. The more members that take the survey, the more entries into the drawing for their group.
Contests like this one will be held on an ongoing basis until the new Culminis Event Proposal System is in place. This is the method we will use each month to gather your input for The VOICE. Be sure to TELL US WHAT YOU THINK.

The survey will close on Friday July 27th 2007 at 8:00 Eastern time.

How to .NET SIG
The 'How to .NET SIG' was been recently started by Dan Wygant, HUNTUG founding member. Members of the SIG meet at 'Aroma's' in Huntsville (Target Shopping center) on thursdays (10am-11am) for discussions on how to address various .NET related issues, recent topics include VB.NET 2005 custom control library for Windows Forms etc. If interested in joining please contact Dan Wygant. Also, stay tuned for a presentation by Dan Wygant prior to one of our upcoming VS.NET meetings.
Topic: "Intro to VB.Net" subtitled: "Welcome to the HowTo .Net SIG"
Description: There are plenty of great programmers, new and old, just waiting to get started. This presentation will be just that, an interactive "starter" short course with cliff-notes to boot. We will begin with the most obvious thing, starting a project in Visual Basic.Net and move on to the time-honored technique I'm introducing, and coining the phrase "Code Migration". The idea is to get something to work, and then find a nice warm assembly for it to live in and be reused from.I wish for each of you to bring a laptop if possible and follow along on this first in a series "beginner" shorties.
Microsoft MVP news
Watch the webcast of Bob Muglia, Senior Vice President of the Microsoft Windows Server Division, highlighting new features of Windows Server 2003 R2. The team just re-launched the TechNet and MSDN virtual labs running on Virtual Server 2005 R2. Check out these sites if you want to test our new software, such as SQL Server 2005 integration services, Windows Server R2 or Visual Studio Team System, in a sandbox environment. Each session is 90 minutes and comes without install, strings attached, or price to participate. There's plenty of room ... the virtual labs support 1,200 concurrent virtual machines.
