ASP.NET MVC Web API by David Rutka
Do you love ASP.NET MVC, but you want to move beyond sending HTML to the browser? Are you interested in embracing HTTP and exposing a clean API to a wider range of clients? ASP.NET MVC 4, now in beta, includes the ASP.NET Web API to help you do just that. In this talk, we'll examine what it's good for as we build out a basic API with support for OData and content negotiation. We'll also look at tips and tricks, gotchas, and security.
David Ruttka's interest in computers began in the mid-80s after seeing King's Quest on a 286, but he started cashing in on it just eight years ago. His focus has been on mobile and web development, primarily on Microsoft platforms. A certified MCPD (Windows Developer 3.5), David has led teams to successful completion of multiple projects, been interviewed for the ESRI Speaker Series, and spoken at a variety of events and conferences.
David has recently become more active in the local development community by attending local user groups and Birmingham’s first GiveCamp. Online, he posts to StackOverflow as frequently as his workload allows, and he’s finally starting to look into that blogging thing everyone’s been talking about.
David resides in Chelsea, AL with his wife, daughter, and two stupid dogs. Aside from software development, David enjoys watching hockey and reading. His other skillsets include karaoke, vanquishing digitized zombies, and pushing his daughter’s tricycle.
